Sewing Machinist

Syntech Recruitment are looking for a Sewing Machinist on behalf of our client, a very well-established Engineering / Aerospace company based near Uxbridge, Middlesex. Working in the final assembly department, the successful Sewing Machinist is to assemble, cut and stitch all fabric and webbing parts required for Aircraft Seat Assembly and survival aid containers

Key Responsibilities

  • Make components using the appropriate fabrics from standard template/ patterns and instructions from drawings, including making first off pieces.
  • Part mark components and label using ink pad and rubber stamps.
  • Cut patterns/templates from drawing prints and when required use templates to cut fabric pieces prior to sewing.
  • Monitor imperfections in material or threads or mistakes in patterns or instructions, referring them to the Cell Leader for resolution.
  • Using drawings and technical / process specifications identify and apply part numbers, drawing issues, and relevant ADR `s and surface finishes.
  • Participation in 5 S and other business improvement initiatives.
  • Use SAP using the shop floor terminals to ensure that work in progress is accurately recorded all times.
  • Processing of component batches is tracked throughout the manufacturing process with records regularly updated and accurate.

Skills, Qualification and Experience

  • Able to interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Working to verbal instructions on development jobs where drawings do not yet exist
  • Basic Computing skills
  • Good hand to eye coordination - able to cut templates and fabric accurately using a template
  • Understand weft and weave
  • Simple maintenance of sewing machines- changing needles etc
  • Preferable experience of working on industrial sewing machines in a manufacturing environment.
  • Overlocking, weaving, cutting etc.
