Hours: 37 per week; Monday to Thursday 8am – 4:30pm & Friday 8am – 1pm

CMM Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations, actively identifying hazards and promoting a safe, sustainable workplace culture.
  • Develop CMM inspection programs and methodologies for New Product Introductions (NPI), including fixture design, gauging strategies, probing paths, and alignment routines to ensure reliable and repeatable measurement processes.
  • Create, validate, and optimise CMM programs, preferably using PC-DMIS and Calypso software (experience with other platforms will be considered).
  • Support first article, in-process, and final inspections, ensuring components meet all dimensional and quality requirements as per customer specifications.
  • Apply GD&T principles and accurately interpret engineering drawings and 3D CAD models to guide inspection processes.
  • Generate clear, comprehensive inspection reports, maintaining traceable records for quality audits and compliance.
  • Document and manage non-conformances, contributing to continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives across manufacturing processes.
  • Perform capability analyses (e.g., Cp, Cpk) to evaluate process stability and measurement system performance.
  • Utilise SPC tools, including run charts and control charts, to monitor trends and enable data-driven decision-making for ongoing process improvements.

CMM Engineer Requirements:

  • CMM Programming: Proficient in both offline and online programming using PC-DMIS and Calypso; experience with alternative software platforms will also be considered.
  • GD&T Proficiency: Strong ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles accurately.
  • CAD & Fixture Design: Competent in using SolidWorks to design inspection fixtures and support product inspection workflows.
  • Inspection Techniques: Experienced in First Article Inspections (FAI), in-process, final, and visual inspection, with a meticulous eye for detail and conformance.
  • Statistical Analysis: Skilled in applying Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools including Cp/Cpk, run charts, and control charts, with basic use of Minitab for data analysis.
  • Precision Measurement: Competent in using manual inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and dial indicators to validate and cross-check CMM results.
  • Calibration & Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA): Experienced in routine calibration procedures and conducting Gage R&R studies to verify measurement system reliability.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Proficient in producing Excel-based inspection reports, ballooned drawings, and maintaining comprehensive inspection logs for traceability.
  • Strong engineering foundation, with a solid understanding of manufacturing and quality principles.
  • Time-served Engineer or qualified to HNC, HND, or Degree level in an Engineering or Quality-related discipline.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to produce clear documentation, reports, and data analysis.
  • Lean Six Sigma knowledge is highly advantageous, particularly in continuous improvement or process optimisation roles.
