The Role We’re working with a leading engineering business that designs, installs, and maintains physical security systems across the UK. They’re looking for a mechanically minded Field Service Engineer to join their team.

Your time will be split between:

  • Field service work – attending sites across London and the South East to install, service, and repair high-security systems (gates, barriers, blockers, turnstiles).
  • Workshop fitting – supporting the Crawley workshop when field work is quieter, carrying out mechanical and electrical fitting/assembly tasks.

Electrical knowledge isn’t essential, but if you can use a multi-meter to check voltages on motors or similar equipment, that’s a strong advantage.
Please note: random drug and alcohol tests may be carried out on certain client sites.

Why join?

  • £35,000 base salary
  • Overtime at 1.3x after 40 hours (weekdays)
  • Uncapped overtime and weekend work available
  • On-call rota with generous allowance (1-in-5)
  • 22 days holiday + bank holidays (rising to 25 after 2 years)
  • Company van (business use only), tools, PPE, phone and uniform provided
  • Long-term progression with training on electrical/control systems once the core role is mastered

What you’ll be doing

  • Installing, servicing and repairing gates, barriers, blockers, and turnstiles
  • Attending breakdowns and fault-finding/diagnostics
  • Cutting induction loops into concrete/tarmac (training provided)
  • Using mechanical skills daily – hands-on repairs and maintenance
  • Completing electronic job sheets on tablet/smartphone
  • Travelling across London and the South East (occasional overnight stays)
  • Providing excellent customer service on-site

What we’re looking for

  • Strong mechanical background (essential), ideally from one of the following:
    • Agricultural machinery maintenance
    • Conveyor systems or material handling equipment
    • Plant fitting or heavy equipment repairs
    • Shift fitting in a factory
    • Site-based equipment such as wheel washes
  • Basic electrical knowledge (advantageous) – motors, multi-meters, 24v/240v systems
  • Full UK driving licence (clean preferred)
  • Physically fit and comfortable with outdoor/manual work (including confined spaces)
  • Willing to travel, stay away occasionally, and take part in an on-call rota
  • Able to pass a safety-critical medical and face-fit test (must be clean-shaven for P3 mask use)
  • British passport and no criminal convictions (security clearance required)

If you’re a hands-on engineer with a solid mechanical background looking for a field role with variety, apply today.
