Machine Shop Estimator

Salary: c. £45,000 + ~£5,000 results-based commission
Location: Near Woking / Guildford area
Hours: Monday–Friday, 07:30–16:00 (40 hours per week, flexable hours)
Job Type: Permanent / Temp to perm 

We’re supporting a leading manufacturing business that’s expanding its machine shop team with an experienced Machine Shop Estimator. This is a brilliant fit for someone with strong engineering knowledge, a background in CNC machining/manufacturing, and confidence putting together accurate quotations for subcontract machining and metal finishing.

You’ll work closely with Purchasing, Production Control and Sales Order Processing teams, taking ownership of estimating, quoting, and closing work while ensuring all customer requirements are captured accurately.

Machine Shop Estimator Duties

  • Interpreting customer requirements from CAD models, technical specs and engineering drawings
  • Preparing detailed quotations and proposals for subcontract machining and metal finishing
  • Reviewing costs and margins with the Machine Shop Manager
  • Deciding bid/no-bid on RFQs based on commercial and technical viability
  • Supporting Production Control and Sales Order Processing with accurate order input into the ERP system
  • Liaising with Business Development on customer updates, job progress and delivery timelines

Machine Shop Estimator Profile

  • A proven engineer – apprenticeship, academic route or time-served
  • 5+ years’ experience in engineering, manufacturing, estimating or technical sales
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining/manufacturing processes
  • Ability to read and interpret CAD and engineering drawings
  • Confident user of Microsoft Office and general software tools
  • Someone within a commutable distance (approx. 1 hour) of the site location
