Syntech Recruitment is working with a well-established UK aerospace and defence manufacturer, renowned for producing high-precision components used in critical, life-saving aviation systems. This is an excellent opportunity to join a clean, modern manufacturing facility with long-term stability and development.

We are recruiting a Toolroom Engineer to support low-batch, high-precision machining operations. This role is ideal for a machinist who enjoys hands-on work, combining manual machining, deburring and fitting, rather than high-volume production work.

Why join?

  • Overtime paid at 1.5x (typically 5–10 hours per week)
  • Fantastic company pension scheme
  • Healthcare plan
  • Early Friday finish for improved work–life balance
  • Opportunity to work on aerospace-grade precision components
  • Clean, modern working environment
  • Long-term role with development opportunities

Toolroom Engineer Duties

  • Carry out manual machining, including milling, turning, drilling and fitting
  • Perform deburring, bench work and component finishing/broaching
  • Produce precision components to tight tolerances and engineering drawings
  • Edit programmes at the machine (no offline programming required)
  • Carry out self-inspection using micrometres, verniers, gauges, etc.
  • Support apprentices and trainees where required
  • Conduct basic machine and tool maintenance

Essential experience:

  • Background as a Manual Machinist, Toolroom Engineer or Toolmaker
  • Confident setting and operating CNC mills and lathes
  • Strong manual machining skills
  • Experience with deburring, fitting and finishing work
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
