Field Service Engineer – Gates, Barriers & Security Systems

Location: South East (ideally based within 20 miles of Watford) 
Salary: £35,000 basic + overtime + on-call allowance (OTE £45,000–£50,000+)

We’re supporting a leading engineering firm that designs, installs, and maintains physical security systems across the UK. They’re looking for a Field Service Engineer with a strong mechanical background to join their team.

You’ll be working on installations, maintenance, and repairs of high-security systems such as gates, barriers, blockers, and turnstiles — with full training provided. While electrical experience isn’t essential, being comfortable using a multi-meter to check voltages on motors or similar equipment would be a real advantage.
Due to the nature of some client sites, random drug and alcohol tests may be carried out.

What you’ll be doing

  • Installing, servicing and repairing gates, barriers, blockers, and turnstiles
  • Attending breakdowns and carrying out fault-finding/diagnostics
  • Cutting induction loops into concrete/tarmac (training & tools provided)
  • Using mechanical skills daily – hands-on repair and maintenance work
  • Completing electronic job sheets via tablet/smartphone
  • Delivering great customer service on-site
  • Travelling across the South East, with occasional overnight stays

We’re looking for people with…

  • Strong mechanical background essential) — ideally from one of the following:
    • Agricultural machinery maintenance
    • Conveyor systems / material handling equipment
    • Plant fitting / digger or heavy equipment repairs
    • Shift fitting in a factory
    • Site-based equipment such as wheel washes
  • Basic electrical understanding (advantageous) — e.g. using a multi-meter, motors, or 24v/240v systems
  • Full UK driving licence (clean preferred)
  • Physically fit and comfortable with outdoor/manual work (including confined spaces)
  • Willing to travel, stay away when needed, and take part in an on-call rota
  • Able to pass a safety-critical medical & face-fit test (must be clean-shaven for P3 mask use)
  • British passport & no criminal convictions (security clearance required)
