Field Service Engineer – Gates, Barriers & Security Systems
Location: Based near Reading (candidates along the M3 corridor also considered – Winchester, Camberley, Farnborough, etc.)
Salary: Up to £40,000 basic + uncapped overtime + on-call allowance (OTE £50,000+)
Hours: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week (door to door pay)
Package: Overtime, on-call rota, training, and career progression

We’re working with a leading engineering firm that designs, installs, and maintains high-security gates, barriers, and access control systems across the UK. They are looking for a skilled Field Service Engineer to join their growing team, supporting both installation and maintenance work.
This position is ideal for someone with strong electrical and mechanical skills, who enjoys hands-on field work and isn’t afraid to work outdoors in all weathers. You’ll be joining a company that offers long-term progression, extensive training, and the opportunity to earn significantly through overtime and call-out work.
Package and Benefits:
- Basic salary up to £40,000
- Overtime paid at 1.3x after 40 hours on weekdays

Field Service Engineer Responsibilities:
- Install, service, and repair physical security systems including gates, barriers, blockers, and turnstiles
- Attend breakdowns and carry out fault-finding and diagnostics
- Take part in a 1-in-4 on-call rota (average 2–3 callouts per week)
- Complete electronic job sheets using a tablet or smartphone
- Deliver excellent customer service and communicate effectively with clients
- Travel across the South and occasionally further afield, including overnight stays when required
Field Service Engineer Requirements:
- Based within commuting distance of Reading or along the M3 corridor (Winchester, Camberley, Farnborough, etc.)
- Strong mechanical and electrical background (18th Edition or equivalent an advantage)
- Experience with PLC and/or Control Panels is highly desirable
- Experience working with 3-phase or 24v DC/AC systems preferred
- Full UK driving licence (preferably clean)
- Comfortable working outdoors and in all weather conditions
- Physically fit and happy with manual, hands-on work
- Willing to work weekends and take part in the on-call rota
- Must hold a British passport and have no criminal convictions (due to security clearance requirements)
- Able to pass a safety-critical medical and face fit test (clean-shaven required for P3 mask)
