Syntech Recruitment are partnering with an engineering contractor to recruit experienced Platers for structural fabrication and installation work on a major power generation project in Tarbert, Co. Kerry, with continuation onto a Dublin-based project thereafter.
This is a large-scale EPC power station project currently under construction — significant heavy plate fabrication, tank and vessel work, boiler components, structural steelwork and mechanical plant installation across a live industrial site.
Plater Responsibilities
· Fabricate and assemble heavy plate components — tanks, vessels, boiler parts and structural assemblies — to specification and drawing
· Mark out, cut, fit up and prepare heavy plate and structural steel for welding
· Work from fabrication drawings and general arrangement drawings
· Carry out fit-up and tacking of components in preparation for coded welding
· Work to tight tolerances on heavy plate fabrication — pressure vessels, storage tanks and boiler components
· Assist with tank erection and on-site installation of structural steelwork
· Operate cutting, grinding, rolling and profile cutting equipment safely and accurately
· Work with overhead cranes and lifting equipment during fabrication and installation
· Support on-site machining and equipment placement activities as required
· Maintain high standards of workmanship and dimensional accuracy throughout
· Support fabrication teams to meet project milestones and deadlines
· Adhere to all site safety procedures, permit-to-work systems and project QA requirements
· Ensure all work is completed right-first-time
Plater Requirements
· Trade qualified — Plater, Boilermaker or equivalent apprenticeship
· Minimum 5 years heavy plate fabrication experience in an industrial environment
· Proven experience on power generation, oil & gas, petrochemical or heavy industrial projects — boiler work, tank erection or pressure vessel fabrication essential
· Competent marking out from fabrication and general arrangement drawings independently
· Experienced in fit-up and tacking of structural and pressure parts to welding procedures
· Working knowledge of plate rolling, pressing, cutting and profile cutting equipment
· Familiar with overhead crane operation and safe use of lifting equipment
· Strong understanding of fabrication tolerances and dimensional inspection
· Knowledge of welding processes and weld inspection requirements
· Familiar with permit-to-work systems and structured EPC project site environments
· Available for immediate start
Highly Desirable
· MMA or MIG welding capability alongside plating — coded or previously coded a significant advantage
· Boiler work experience — pressure parts, drums, headers or associated steelwork
· Tank erection experience — storage tanks, process vessels or similar
· CSCS / Safe Pass / relevant site safety card
· Overhead crane licence or LEEA rigging and slinging awareness
· Experience working under RT/UT NDT inspection regimes on pressure parts
Benefits
· Immediate start available
· Ongoing work across Tarbert project with continuation to Dublin
· Opportunity for overtime
· Lodge depending on location of work
