Syntech Recruitment is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer for our space communications client near Didcot, Oxfordshire. In this role, you will drive the development of embedded software solutions for laser communications and control systems, collaborating closely with project and software leads to deliver high-performance systems.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop advanced lasercom ground stations.
• Design, develop, and maintain embedded software solutions for ground station communications and real-time control.
• Produce clear and concise technical documentation.
• Support assembly, integration, testing, and field deployment of complete systems.
• Contribute to the enhancement of development processes and tools.

Requirements:

Essential:

• Proficiency in real-time/embedded software development using C/C++ with RTOS (preferably FreeRTOS) and Linux platforms.
• Expertise in implementing high-speed (1Gbps+) communication protocols including forward error correction and clock recovery.
• Familiarity with networking (Ethernet and IP protocols) and hardware interfacing protocols (I2C, SPI, CAN, EtherCAT).
• Background within an engineering/manufacturing/R&D environment based in the UK/NATO Countries/5 Eyes.

Desirable:

• Familiarity with Xilinx FPGA/MPSoC and related toolchains (Vivado, Vitis, etc.).
• Python development skills, including for test scripts.
• Experience in Linux systems development, Yocto Linux/Petalinux build experience.
• Knowledge of Satcom protocols, particularly optical free-space communications.
• Understanding of space-related standards (CCSDS, ECSS, SDA, etc.).
• Experience with UML/SysML, especially with Enterprise Architect.
• Familiarity with Matlab/Simulink, including HDL code generation.
• Background in control systems and/or image processing and machine vision.
